Quoted exactly what they said they would. Showed up on the day they said. Cleaned up properly at the end of each day. Roof looks better than the day we bought the place.
Candelo roofers. Bushfire-resilient steel roofs for inland country.
Candelo is a heritage village inland from Merimbula, with rural blocks fanning out across genuinely bushfire-prone country. Steel sheet is the sensible default here. We know the village, the BAL ratings, and the storm patterns. The crew is 30 minutes back at our Merimbula base.

What we do in Candelo.
Candelo is a heritage village set back from the coast, with a tight cluster of historic timber and weatherboard buildings around the village green and a wide spread of rural-residential and farming blocks fanning out around it. The Candelo Hotel, the church and a handful of cottages in the village core are on the Bega Valley Shire heritage list, and parts of the surrounding country sit on bushfire-prone land per the NSW RFS mapping. The housing mix is older Federation and mid-century homes in the village, working-farm and acreage homes through the surrounding country, and a steady run of newer Colorbond builds on the larger rural blocks.
Most Candelo work is metal-roof work. Steel sheet (Colorbond, Zincalume) is the sensible inland default: it's non-combustible, it handles the wind and rain that come through the valley every storm season, and it's straightforward to maintain. The older village homes are sometimes still on terracotta tile or original galvanised iron, and we'll handle those too, including the heritage paperwork where the home is listed.
We do new roof installations, full re-roofs (Colorbond and Zincalume), repairs after storms, and tile or metal restoration where the structure is sound. For heritage village homes we work to the Council's documentation requirements. Candelo is about a 30-minute drive from our Merimbula base, so a quote visit usually happens within the week and most jobs run as expected.
Why Candelo roofs need inland specialists.
Candelo and the surrounding country sit in serious bushfire territory. The 2019-20 Black Summer fires burned through more than 60% of Bega Valley Shire and destroyed 467 homes locally, with significant impact across the rural inland country around Candelo. A lot of the rebuilds since have moved to BAL-rated construction, and the roof is one of the most important parts of meeting that rating. The good news is that steel sheet (Colorbond, Zincalume) is non-combustible and meets every BAL classification from BAL-LOW through BAL-FZ (flame zone). On every BAL-rated Candelo build we've done, a properly installed steel roof has been the right answer.
For BAL-rated jobs the system matters as much as the sheet itself. We'll spec ember-proof flashings around penetrations (vents, skylights), gutter guards where the BAL rating requires them, and an appropriate underlay rated for the fire risk. The full system goes on your written quote with the BAL rating noted so you can see what we're recommending and why. If you're not sure what your block's BAL rating is, we'll check the NSW RFS Bushfire Prone Land tool by address before we quote.
Storm damage matters too. East Coast Lows come through the inland Bega Valley in June and July and the wind exposure on the higher Candelo blocks can be significant. The May 2025 East Coast Low brought damaging weather across the inland country and we were on roofs through the Candelo area the week after, mostly fixing flashings and ridge caps that had lifted. If a storm has come through and you're not sure what your roof looks like up top, call us and we'll come and look.
For heritage village homes in the Candelo core, there's a Council process to follow. We've been through the Bega Valley Shire heritage DA process before, we'll handle the documentation, and we'll work with materials and profiles that match the heritage listing.

What Sapphire Coast homeowners say.
We'd had three other roofers look at the leak before Merimbula Roofing. They were the first ones who actually went up and inspected the whole thing instead of guessing. Fixed it the first time.
We're in Canberra, the house is in Tathra. They sent us photos at the end of each day and the job came in on the quoted price. Made the whole thing painless.
