Wolumla roofers. Re-roofs and repairs for inland Sapphire Coast homes.

Wolumla sits inland between Merimbula and Bega, rural blocks and small acreage, mostly bushfire-prone country. Steel sheet is the standard answer here, both for fire resilience and for the storms that come through the valley every winter. We're 15 minutes back at our Merimbula base.

What we do in Wolumla.

Wolumla is the inland village halfway between Merimbula and Bega, a small cluster of older village homes and the pub at the centre, surrounded by a wide spread of rural-residential blocks, small acreage and farming country. The Princes Highway runs through and most of the homes we work on are either in the village itself or on the rural blocks running out into the hills on either side. Housing mix is older weatherboard and fibro homes in the village core (some 60+ years old), and a steady run of newer Colorbond builds on the larger rural blocks. A meaningful share of Wolumla properties sit on bushfire-prone land per the NSW RFS mapping.

Most Wolumla roof work is metal-roof work. Steel sheet (Colorbond, Zincalume) is the sensible inland default: non-combustible, handles the wind and rain that come through every winter, and straightforward to look after. The older village homes are sometimes still on the original galvanised iron or first-generation Colorbond from the 80s. Both are usually at the end of their run when we look at them.

We handle new roof installations, full re-roofs in Colorbond or Zincalume, repairs after East Coast Lows, and storm damage assessments. For BAL-rated rural blocks we spec the system to match the rating. Wolumla is 15 minutes from our Merimbula base, so we can usually be on a Wolumla roof same week, often within a day or two of your call.

Why Wolumla roofs need inland specialists.

Wolumla and the surrounding rural blocks sit in genuine bushfire country. The 2019-20 Black Summer fires burned through more than 60% of Bega Valley Shire and destroyed 467 homes locally, with significant impact across the inland villages and rural country. A lot of the rebuilds since have moved to BAL-rated construction, and the roof is one of the key parts of meeting the BAL rating. Steel sheet (Colorbond, Zincalume) is non-combustible and meets every BAL classification from BAL-LOW through BAL-FZ (flame zone), which makes it the standard answer for almost every BAL-rated job in Wolumla.

The system around the sheet matters as much as the sheet itself for BAL-rated work. We'll spec ember-proof flashings around penetrations like vents and skylights, gutter guards if the rating requires them, and an underlay rated for the fire risk on your block. The full system goes on your written quote with the BAL rating noted. If you're not sure what your block's BAL rating is, we'll look it up on the NSW RFS Bushfire Prone Land tool before we quote.

Storm damage is the other major factor for Wolumla roofs. East Coast Lows come through every winter and the higher rural blocks around Wolumla can cop serious wind exposure. The May 2025 East Coast Low brought damaging weather across the inland Bega Valley and we were on roofs through the Wolumla area the week after, mostly fixing flashings and ridge caps that had lifted, and the occasional sheet that had pulled away from the structure. If a storm has come through and you're not sure what the roof looks like up top, call us and we'll come and have a look.

The other thing worth mentioning for older Wolumla village homes: we often see roof structures that aren't quite to current standards (sarking missing, batten spacing tight, ridge caps poorly bedded). On a full re-roof we'll bring the structure up to current code as part of the job, and any structural variations we find go through the written variation process we use on every job. No surprise bills at the end.

What Sapphire Coast homeowners say.

Quoted exactly what they said they would. Showed up on the day they said. Cleaned up properly at the end of each day. Roof looks better than the day we bought the place.

We'd had three other roofers look at the leak before Merimbula Roofing. They were the first ones who actually went up and inspected the whole thing instead of guessing. Fixed it the first time.

We're in Canberra, the house is in Tathra. They sent us photos at the end of each day and the job came in on the quoted price. Made the whole thing painless.

How quickly can you get to Wolumla for a quote?
Wolumla is 15 minutes from our Merimbula base, so a quote visit usually happens within the same week, often within a day or two. For an emergency leak or storm damage we'll do our best to get up the same day. Call us and we'll give you a real answer based on the schedule.
My block is BAL-rated. What does that mean for the roof?
Steel sheet (Colorbond, Zincalume) is non-combustible and meets every BAL classification, so the roof material itself is the easy part. What changes for BAL-rated work is the surrounding system: ember-proof flashings around penetrations, gutter guards where the rating requires them, and an underlay specified for the BAL category. We'll check your block's BAL rating before we quote, and the recommended system goes on your written quote.
My old Wolumla place has structural issues under the roof. Do you handle that?
Yes. We're a roofing business but we're also licenced carpenters, so on a full re-roof we'll handle batten replacement, sarking, ridge bedding and any structural variation that needs doing. The honest answer is older Wolumla village homes sometimes need a bit of work underneath. Anything we find that wasn't in the original quote goes through our written variation process with photos before we proceed, so there are no surprise bills at the end. Call us and we'll come and have a look.
